Author Peter Schinkel talks sci-fi (part 1)

Author Peter Schinkel has loved writing since primary school. Mainly short stories and poetry, and science fiction such as Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. 

His writing dream blossomed in mid-2022 when he hired an editor and dived into writing almost every day. Twisted Planet Book One, his first anthology of science fiction short stories came out in September 2023. Twisted Planet Book Two is due for release in November 2024. 

Peter’s stories are less about aliens, war and dystopian futures, and more about exploring the human condition, looking at themes like love, fear, mortality, hope and fun.

Jamie West - episode 3

In this third and final episode with London based author Jamie West, he chats with Jack Roney and Harry Colfer about how his personal experiences working in the theatre industry influenced his stories. He also discusses marketing strategies that have worked for him as a self-published author and the technical elements that go towards designing book covers and book production. He speaks candidly about how it was important for him to incorporate LGBTQ+ characters into his books to breakdown traditional stereotypes.

London based author Jamie West - episode 1

Jamie West is the West End's resident murder mystery author!

He’s worked backstage on countless shows in London’s West End. His work covers a huge variety of shows including The Book of Mormon, Miss Saigon, Kinky Books, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton, to name just a few.
A love for both theatre history and a good murder mystery is what has inspired his Bertie Carroll series, set in 1930s theatre-land.

His first novel, Death on the Pier, was published in October 2022, going on to become an Amazon Best Seller and Chat Magazine's Book of the Month. Murder at the Matinee, the second in the series, is coming out 5th September 2024. He continues to split his time between writing and working in the theatre.

In this first episode, he chats with Jack Roney and Harry Colfer about how his experience working in London's theatre industry inspired his novels.

Interview with USA author Kate Brandes

Author Kate Brandes lives in the small river town of Riegelsville, Pennsylvania.  She has also worked as a geologist and environmental scientist for more than twenty years. She currently teaches geology, creative writing and a course on Landscape, Culture and Story of Place at Moravian University. She also co-directs the Moravian Writers’ Conference. Her novel 'The Promise of Pierson Orchard' was published by Wyatt-Mackenzie Publishing in 2017 and her new novel 'Stone Creek' is due for release in August this year.

In episode 1 of this two-part interview, Kate explains how her scientific background led to developing her creative writing craft where sense of place is at the heart of her stories. Environmental issues are an underlying theme, and Kate discusses how it is important to balance delivering your key messages with telling an engaging story and developing complex fictional characters, perhaps inspired by real people.
